Venues for Music Groups

A variety of spaces are available to book on the University campus during the summer, including concert/recital venues, rehearsal spaces and teaching spaces ideal for choirs, orchestras and other ensembles.

The Quadrangle 

Dating back to the 19th century, the University’s Quadrangle is steeped in historic charm and offers two stunning venues suited to musical performances such as choir recitals and orchestra concerts; the Emily Anderson Concert Hall (capacity 180) and the Michael D. Higgins Auditorium (capacity 150).

The Bailey Allen Hall

The multi-purpose Bailey Allen Hall is another well-suited venue. With capacity for 1,000 delegates theatre-style, it boasts ample space for large musical ensembles, as well as breakout space.

The O’ Donoghue Centre

This state-of-the-art facility is located adjacent to the Bailey Allen Hall and boasts a black box auditorium seating up to 120, as well as studio rooms and a beautiful foyer area.

Other Spaces

The University of Galway campus boasts a wide range of classrooms and lecture theatres too, which are perfect for music classes and group rehearsals.

Nearby Churches (Off-Campus)

Should a church be your preferred concert venue, the Galway Cathedral and St. Nicholas’ Church are excellent nearby options* located within easy reach of the University’s rehearsal spaces, accommodation and dining spaces.

We also offer a bright, modern common space at our accommodation that can be used by guests for informal music practice (suitable for small to medium ensembles only). A number of meeting rooms are available to use also. 

These spaces must be booked at reception. As this is in a residential area, we kindly ask guests to be mindful of noise levels.

Catering

If catering is required, our team can co-ordinate this on your behalf, ensuring tasty and nutritious meal plans to suit your group’s specific requirements. 

On-campus catering companies take pride in providing fresh, locally-sourced, seasonal produce. 

A number of dining spaces are available for use across the campus, the largest of which seats 800.
